Last second goal gives Chiefs a tie with Redmen

The Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs needed a feverish finish to tie the Brooklin Redmen 10-10 Wednesday night in Whitby.
Down a goal with less than a minute into overtime, the Chiefs forced a turnover and got the ball to Vaughn Harris, who scored his second goal of the night with eight seconds remaining in the game.
Harris' goal capped a 10-minute overtime period where the Chiefs had to come from behind twice. Ryan Benesch responded after Ryan Keenan scored the first goal of the extra frame, and Curtis Knight netted his third to give the Redmen another lead before Harris tied it up.
Knight scored the lone goal of the first period, before both teams exploded for five goals each.
Benesch scored three goals, with Harris and Brendan Bomberry adding singles. Austin Shanks scored twice in the second period for the Redmen, while Ryan MacSpayden, Dan Lintner and Reilly O'Connor scored one each.
In the third period, Randy Staats, Johnny Powless and Benesch evened things up for the Chiefs. Knight and Shanks scored for the Redmen.
Brandon Miller got the call between the Chiefs pipes making 50 saves.
With its 7-1-1 record, the Chiefs are now one point behind the Peterborough Lakers for top spot in Major Series Lacrosse. Tuesday at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena, the Chiefs host the Redmen at 8 p.m. in the back half of the home-and-home set.
