Everyone knew the Major Series Lacrosse semifinal between the Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs and Brooklin Redmen would be tight.
Well, Game 1 certainly showed that.
The Redmen got goals from Ryan Keenan with seven minutes to go in regulation and Curtis Knight added a late empty-netter giving their team a 6-4 win over the Chiefs in Whitby to take an early lead in the best-of-seven semifinal series.
Like it has been all season, both teams countered each other, with Kiel Matisz giving hte redmen an early lead before Vaughn Harris and Johnny Powless gave teh Chiefs a lead at the Chiefs a lead at the end of one period.
Dan Lintner and Adrian Sorichetti scored the only two goals of the second period to give the hosts another lead, before Cody Jamieson tied things up again in the opening minute of the third period. After Matisz quickly responded to give the Redmen another lead, Ryan Benesch tied things up midway through the frame.
Dillon Ward made 35 stops in the loss, while Mike Poulin made 38 saves down at the other end.
Game 2 of the series is at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena Saturday at 7 p.m., with Game 3 in Whitby on Monday at 8 p.m.
