Excelsiors shut Chiefs down

The Brampton Excelsiors are showing just how tough Major Series Lacrosse is.
For a second-consecutive game, the Excelsiors took it to the defending MSL and Mann Cup champions, but on Saturday at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena, they held on for a 7-6 victory over the Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs.
The Chiefs now lead the best-of-seven MSL semifinal series 2-1.

Like they did in Game 2, the Excelsiors got off to a quick start, with Brandon Benn and Joe Resetarits giving their team a lead.
Brandon Goodwin had the only Chiefs response.
In the second period,  Mike Burke led the visitors with a pair of goals, while Ethan O'Connor and Tyler Fereira added one each.
Jeff Shattler did everything he could to close the gap, scoring three goals, while Ryan Benesch added one.
But Jeff Teat's goal 27 seconds into the third period proved to be the winner,
Dhane Smith got the Chiefs within one goal midway through the frame. Despite a desperate last-ditch effort to equalize the game in the closing minutes, Tyler Carlson was up to the task making 15 of his 38 saves in the period.
Brandon Miller got the call between the Chiefs' pipes, and was exceptional at times in a 32-save performance.
Game 4 of the series is back in Brampton Tuesday night, with Game 5 at the ILA
Thursday. Both games are at 8pm.
