Chiefs' depth downs Excelsiors

All season long Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs head coach Rich Kilgour has said he hasn't needed to rely on just one or two players.
Thursday night in Burlington, that again shone bright, as Kasey Beirnes and Dhane Smith scored two goals each to lead the Chiefs to a 7-6 come-from-behind victory over the Brampton Excelsiors.
With the win, the Chiefs take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Major Series Lacrosse semifinal series.
Beirnes scored twice in the third period, including the game-winner with 2:31 remaining in regulation time to give the Chiefs their only lead in the game.  David Brock scored the game-tying goal six minutes into the final frame, minutes after Beirnes' first.
The Excelsiors came out hard in the first period, mounting a lead thanks to Mike Mawdsley, Matt Bennett and Connor Sellers.
The Chiefs finally were able to cash in on the offensive side in the second period, with Smith scoring twice to lead the way, while Johnny Powless and Colin Boucher added singles.
Joe Resetarits, Sellars and Tyler Fereira kept the lead for the Excelsiors.
Dillon Ward again got the win between the Chiefs' pipes, making 46 saves, while Tyler Carlson also had a big game in net for the Excelsiors, in a 53-stop effort.
With the Chiefs up 2-0, the MSL semifinal series shifts back to the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena Saturday at 7pm.
