Young guns help lead Chiefs to win over Lakers

The young guns showed that the present and future look bright for the Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs.
And in the process, Johnny Powless, Dhane Smith and Dillon Ward helped lead the Chiefs to a 12-8 win over the Peterborough Lakers Thursday night on the road.
Powless scored three times and added two assists, Dhane Smith scored once with five helpers, and Ward made 40 saves as the Chiefs improved to 6-1 and took over first place in Major Series Lacrosse.
Also leading the way was Ryan Benesch, who scored five times.
“I'm new to this rivalry but you can always tell by the scores it's tight,” Ward told the Peterborough Examiner. “You know they're two teams that are always going to be competitive, they're going to be tough and it's going to be up and down. That's exactly what it was tonight. We're glad to come out on top but we have a lot of season to take care of.”
Benesch led the first-period charge for the Chiefs scoring once, while Dave Brock started the scoring.
Adam Jones and Brad Self responded for hte home team.
In the second period,Benesch scored a pair of goals, while Jeff Shattler, Powless and Randy Staats netted singles.
Scott Evans scored twice for the Lakers, with Turner Evans and Curtis Dickson adding one each.
The Chiefs closed the game down thanks to a pair from Powless, while Smith and Benesch added singles.
Dickson and Benesch scored for the Lakers.
The same two teams meet again Tuesday, this time at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena at 8pm.
